Visual Arts Scholar

Students can earn a four or five year Visual Arts scholar honor medallion commending the honor of completing 8 semesters or 10 semesters of visual arts classes

Jazz CD Contest

Kirkwood KCCK radio Station

Any area high school student can submit a design for the cover of the Corridor Jazz CD. First prize is $100. The winner and honorable mention entries will also be displayed online and during the streaming Corridor Jazz Concert in April.

Entry deadline is December 15, 2023.

  • Jurors look for works that exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. 

  • We’re looking for work that expresses an authentic perspective and stands out from classroom assignments and social media trends. 

Can submit an individual piece (individual pieces are for regionally and nationally awards, exhibitions, publications) or a Portfolio (portfolios allow you to win a scholarship)

  • $10 for individual pieces (see Finley for financial help!)

  • $30 for a portfolio (see Finley for financial help!)

Portfolio Option:

  • 6 works of art

  • Artist or Writer Statements and Personal Statements (500 words or less)

Entry DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 1st, 2023

What is it:

Students submit a portfolio of 10 digital images of their work and an artist statement. These portfolios will be judged by college professors and working artists. The top 20% in each class will be selected as that class's All State Art Team, and will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Des Moines Art Center. These students will receive scholarship offers, a personalized plaque, and a large poster of their artwork. The three top scoring schools, based on their top five individual portfolio scores, will be awarded the prestigious title of “All State Art Program.”

  • $40 fee (see Finley for financial help!)

  • $25 fee if teacher has a AEI (see Finley for financial help!)

Who is eligible:

  • 11th & 12th Grade Students

Students submit the following:

  • 10 images of 10 different pieces of artwork (no separate detail images) or 1 minute segments of video with dimensions, media and title.

  • Photo of Self

  • Artist statement

  • Value of visual art in your life.

  • Your Influences

  • Experiences that have shaped or changed you as an artist.

What is it:

Youth Art Month is a statewide celebration and exhibit of student artwork. Winning artwork pieces are displayed at the Iowa YAM Show, Iowa Governor's Show, and at NAEA in the Youth Art Month Museum. There are also prize categories sponsored by art vendors. 

Who is eligible:

  • K-12 students.  Each AEI member may nominate up to 10 students.

Students submit the following:

  • All work must be 2-D

  • Max size 24in x 30in 

  • Electronic Submission Form

  • Release Form

  • SEND PHYSICAL PIECE OF ART

  • Each student whose work is selected for exhibition will be exhibited at Jordan Creek Town Center, receive an invitation to the reception as well as a certificate of achievement.

What is it:

Entries are open worldwide to photographers using an iPhone or iPad. Photos should not be published previously anywhere. The posts on personal accounts (Facebook, Instagram etc.) are eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use any IOS apps.

Who is eligible:

Which Photos are eligible:

All photos taken with an iPhone or an iPad. The photos should not be altered in Photoshop or any desktop image processing program.

The use of any iPhone/iPad app is permissible. iPhone add-on lenses can be used. In some cases we may ask the original image to verify that it’s taken with an iPhone, iPad. The photos that can not be verified are disqualified.

Entry Fees:
1 image:$5.50, 3 images:$12.50, 5 images:$18.50, 10 images:$37.50, 15 images:$55.50, 20 images:$67.00, 25 images:$75.50. There are no limits in the number of entries however we recommend that you only submit your best ones.
